Isla Mujeres is one of the Pueblos Mágicos found on the coast of Quintana Roo. You can reach it from Cancun in approximately 20 minutes by boat so you can go for day trip or stay overnight on the island. Once you are there you will find different ways to get transported and get to know the most beautiful that Isla Mujeres has to offer.

Take your own car.

This first option is recommended if you are going to travel with several people who carry luggage, it will be easier the transportation and they will be able to move autonomously. Just take into consideration that the extension of the island is not very large and a lot of vehicles will make you lose the touch of magical village.   

In case you decide to take you must use the cargo ferry, this departs from Punta Sam in Costa Mujeres, the cost per vehicle type varies, but to give you an idea of how the cost for a family car works (including the driver) has a cost of $400 MXN, for each extra passenger the cost is $185 MXN if you are an adult, $130 MXN if you are a child.  

Ferry schedules are limited:   

• Monday to Friday: 7:00, 10:30, 14:00 y 17:30 
• Saturday: 7:00, 11:30 y 16:00 
• Sunday: 10:00, 13:00 y 17:00 

Get to know the bus routes.  

With routes running from north to south and east to west, the Isla Mujeres bus can help you get where you need it.   

With 4 routes that cover different important points of the island you can find them from 7:00 to 21:00 ready for you, the cost of a single travel ticket is $20 MXN ($1 USD) and the cost of a ticket for the full day is $180 MXN ($9 USD), with this ticket you can go up and down as many times as you want.   

Let’s go to the known, the taxis.   

You can find the taxi station near the pier, with a fleet ready to take tourists to their hotels or Air bnb.   

The cost of this varies from where you take it and the distance of the trip you will have; we recommend this if you travel with many people or you have several luggage items that need extra help to carry if you did not have the option to transport your car or you preferred not to.   

Get to drive a golf cart.   

At Av. Rueda Medina, leaving the pier, you will find several local rentals of golf carts, prices may vary a little, but in all you will find hourly rentals, rent per day (5-7 hours) or per week.   

You can also find carts of standard size, for six people or with an area that works as a trunk so that you carry everything you need.
