The Mexican Caribbean has lots of magical places to visit with sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, also it has islands; two of the most visited and loved are Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, the first one is located 7 km away from Cancun, which would be a 20-minute ferry ride, and the second one is located 18 km away from Playa del Carmen, which can be translated into a 40-minute ferry ride. How to go to Cozumel from Isla Mujeres: step by step.
One thing to notice is that there is almost 70 km of distance between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, in total, from one island to another the ride could last about 3 hours because there is no direct ferry from one place to another, still, don’t worry we will tell you how to move step by step so you will see how easy it is!
First step: from Isla Mujeres to Cancun
First, you need to go to the Ultramar Ferry Station located in Rueda Medina Avenue close to Señor Frog’s Store, downtown Isla Mujeres. Here the one-way ferry ticket will cost about 160 Mexican pesos for each person.
Once you bought the ticket, get ready for a nice and smooth 20-minute trip across the sea until you get to Cancun!
Second step: from the ferry station to the bus station.
Once you arrived into Cancun’s Ultramar Ferry Station in Puerto Juarez, you have two options; you can either take public transportation like a bus or a van (which here are called combis) and costs only 10 Mexican pesos each person, just make sure that the one you take says on windshield “ADO” and that you take it on the other side of the road, outside the ferry station; the second option is to take a taxi which you will find also on the other side of the road and the cost may vary from 50 o 80 Mexican pesos per ride and the ride may last about 20 minutes depending on the traffic.
Third step: From Cancun to Playa del Carmen.
Now you are on the ADO bus station downtown Cancun, the only thing you have to do here is to buy your ticket to other ADO Bus Station Downtown Playa del Carmen, which cost will vary from 65 to 200 Mexican pesos and the trip may last from 1 hour to 1 and a half.
Fourth step: from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel.
What comes next is super easy! Once you get to the ADO Bus Station in Playa del Carmen the only thing you have to do is to walk in direction to where the Church is and to continue walking on that same street which is the beginning of the 5th avenue, soon you will see a park with a big statue. At the end of that street you will just have to turn to the left and keep walking until you get to the dock in which you will find different companies with prices that will vary from a 100 to 300 Mexican pesos, still, the trip will last about 40 minutes, make sure you enjoy it!
